The masses of cataclysmic variables.
Abstract
Masses are derived for the individual components of six cataclysmic variables. There is a considerable spread in the masses of the white dwarf components, which range from 0.73 M0 in EM Cyg to 1.26 M0 in Z Cam. All of the white dwarfs have masses greater than 0.70 M0, but there is no evidence that there is any preferred mass. It is found that the morphology of the eruptions (i.e., nova versus dwarf nova) is independent of the mass of both the white dwarf and the late-type star.
