Paleomagnetism of Meteorites
Abstract
The significance of magnetization of meteorites in testing hypotheses on the formation of the solar system, modes of magnetization, sources of magnetic fields in the solar system and in magnetization of meteoritic bodies, and hypotheses on meteorite magnetization are considered. Types of meteorites and their magnetic constituents and thermomagnetic behavior are reviewed. Natural modes of magnetization of meteoritic bodies are discussed. Gaps in the understanding of meteorite magnetization and its relation to the magnetism, chemistry, and history of the solar system are pointed out.
