Absolute ultraviolet spectrophotometry from the TD1 satellite. VIII. Search for the C IV resonance doublet in the late type stars.
Abstract
Summary. A search is made for the C iv emission resonance doublet at 1550 A in cc Car (F 0 Ib-II), ccCMi (F 5 IV-V), cc Tau (K 5 III), cc Boo (K 2111) and cc Ori (M 2 Ia) by means of the S2/68 data. The emission is detected in cc CMi and not observed in the four other stars. Considerations on the limit of detectability permit maximum limits of the emission measure fNe2dh for C iv to be determined. The emission measure of cc CMi is compatible with the value obtained by Evans et al. (1975). The maximum limits for the other stars are compared to solar measures. The emission of He ii at 1640 A in Procyon is analyzed in terms of the emission measure and the same anomaly as in the sun arises.
