A special capture by Neptune.
Abstract
Summary. In calculations with artificial comets by E. I. KazimirchakPolonskaya there happen to be the very interesting case of a capture by Neptune. In trying to confirm her results I found a very good agreement in my numerical integration concerning the stable orbit of the captured comet. For this purpose I used the nbody program of Schubart and Stumpff which I had to change so that it can choose by itself the step size. The possible influence of non gravitational forces is estimated according to Marsden and it results that they are negligible already in the distance of 6 AU of the sun. In computations back the expected escape did not occur. Theoretically a capture is possible when we regard it as an elliptic restricted three body problem, but the possibility for finding the initial conditions and for realizing them is very small.
