Solar seeing and the statistical properties of the photospheric solar granulation. I. Noise in Michelson and speckle interferometry.
Abstract
Summary. Signal to noise ratios in speckle and Michelson experiments are compared from measurements of the spatial power spectrum of the solar granulation. The computation is restricted to the case where a calibration of the atmospheric turbulence can be carried out. A discussion concerning the seeing leads to the conclusions that, except for very good seeing, the signal to noise ratio is higher in speckle techniques than in Michelson experiments.
