Effective use for satellite communications of the radio frequency spectrum and the geostationary satellite orbit
Abstract
A survey is made of some of the problems yet to be solved internationally in governing the positioning, in the geostationary orbit, of satellites used for a variety of communications services. In various ways these problems parallel, augment or differ from the problems of internationally allocating the use, by service, of the radio frequency spectrum. Solutions already derived by international agreement for these latter problems suggest some of the means by which the satellite orbital location problems may be approached and solved. Reference is made to prospective technical solutions, unique to the field of satellite communications, which could facilitate the effective use both of the frequency spectrum and of the geostationary orbit.
