Statistical treatment of data uncertainties in heat transfer
Abstract
Statistical error analysis (root-sum-square) is compared to the Monte Carlo method for the treatment of data uncertainties in heat transfer through an aerospace structure. Comparison is made on the basis of computer time utilized, numerical results, and utility of additional data developed in the course of statistical error analysis. Numerical results of the two methods are comparable. For the example problem, computer times utilized in each method are about equal. The root-sum-square method required more programming effort but yielded useful intermediate results.
