Ground motion gauge development
Abstract
The overall objective of this work was the review, design, and improvement of techniques for the measurement of the effects of explosions. The report describes continued development of an integrated-accelerometer gauge suitable for recording particle velocity in rock or soil. A drop bar apparatus was modified to allow independent calibration of the completed gauge. Lab tests indicate that proper 'aging' can greatly reduce accelerometer zero shifts caused by high peak accelerations. Data are presented from the airblast measurements in the recent HARDPAN I-2 event. A magnetic technique for statically measuring ground displacement and rotation is analyzed.
