An improvement of the efficiency of the frequency/orbit utilization
Abstract
The paper presents results of technical studies of the efficient utilization of frequency spectrum and orbit in the framework of the 12-GHz channel assignment plan for broadcasting satellite use. The following technical factors were examined in the study: (1) transmission standards of the TV and sound signals: protection ratio, required bandwidth and desired receiving qualities; (2) performance of the satellite: sidelobe characteristics of the satellite antenna, antenna pointing accuracy and station-keeping accuracy; (3) performance of the receiving equipment: sidelobe characteristics of the receiving antenna, antenna pointing accuracy and receiver selectivity; (4) procedure of selecting orbital position, polarization and channels.
