Thin-film distributed-feedback lasers
Abstract
Progress in fabricating thin-film distributed feedback (DFB) lasers is discussed. A DFB structure can be produced by inducing a periodic spatial variation of the refractive index or of the gain constant of the laser medium. As an example, a DFB dye laser in a gelatin film was constructed. Ideas borrowed from dye laser experiments are applied to the development of a DFB GaAs double heterostructure laser.
