Investigation into the flow field of a hot jet in a cross flow
Abstract
The flow field of a hot round jet in a cross flow was investigated in a 3m-wind tunnel. In order to find out the influence of temperature on the mixing of the turbulent jet with the cross flow, the flow field and the temperature distribution were measured in several sections up to 30 jet diameters downstream of the nozzle. Results show that the horseshoe shape deformation of the cross-blown jet with a circular cross section, which was present initially, leads to the promotion of a counter-rotating eddy pair after a short length of flow. This eddy pair limits the deflected jet on both sides and contains the jet momentum.
