Tactical communication systems
Abstract
The work described was motivated by the need for better techniques for analyzing, designing, and testing message switches in store-and-forward communications networks and focuses up on such aspects as modeling, higher-level communications languages, and dynamic testing. An approximate analytic model is described in which the store-and-forward switch is represented as a network of queues; the model was applied to the Tactical Automatic Digital Switch (TADS) and a summary of the results and conclusions is given. The first version of a communications-oriented design language (COD) was developed and its structure is described in this report. The instruction format, program structure, and substantial portions of the software code were completed for implementing a proposed dynamic impulse testing technique for TADS; a summary of the work completed is presented.
