Polarization diversity with adaptive channel decoupling
Abstract
An investigation is conducted concerning the use of polarization diversity for the enhancement of the bandwidth utilization in the case of communication channels. A technique involving the use of polarization diversity at a single carrier frequency could be employed for satellite time-division multiple access uplink and downlink channels. A channel model is developed. It is shown that a relatively simple equalizer/channel parameter estimator can be used to decouple cross-polarized diversity channels and achieve relative insensitivity to absolute cross-talk levels.
