Analysis of quantization and dither effects on spread spectrum signals
Abstract
This note considers the effect of adding a dither signal to a received spread spectrum signal prior to quantization in a digital correlation detector. It is assumed that the received signal includes a large interfering tone which completely suppresses the signal in the absence of dither. It is shown that the digital detector can perform approximately as well as the comparable analog detector for a wide range of input signal amplitudes. Expressions for the relative SNR of the digital detector and the quantization noise are derived and a dither signal AGC is considered.
