Radar detection range under atmospheric ducting conditions
Abstract
A method is presented for calculating actual detection range under the influence of ducting assuming the free space detection range is given. Specifically, calculations are performed for a 3.3 GHz radar under evaporation ducting conditions. Sample curves are presented showing detection ranges as functions of target height for several radar heights and evaporation duct intensities. The occurrence of various duct intensities in two areas is discussed and estimates are made of the per cent of time detection range enhancements occur.
