High resolution radar for remote atmospheric sensing
Abstract
A very sensitive, very high range resolution (one meter) radar is described which was specifically designed for remote sensing of refractivity fluctuations in the clear atmosphere. The radar is a continuous wave radar with linear frequency modulation (FW-CW). The reasons for selecting this kind of radar are discussed and the principle of operation is described. Design considerations and performance characteristics are presented and examples of observations are shown.
