Feasibility model gravity gradiometer test results
Abstract
A cylindrical floated gravity gradiometer was constructed to test the feasibility of the concepts. During the Spring of 1973, the correct operation of this instrument was achieved. Much data was collected during the remainder of 1973. Significant examples are presented herein. Almost all of the data was at the thermal (Brownian Motion) noise limit of the device. This limit is 0.14 or 1.07 Eotvos units at integration times of 1800 or 10 seconds, respectively. The design of a spherical prototype suitable for flight is currently underway.
