Near-field small earthquake strong motion studies
Abstract
The ability to distinguish between the explosive and tectonic energy releases in the magnitude range 3 less than or equal to M less than or equal to 5 is examined. Recording the near-field strong ground motion helps in more accurate determinations of the earthquake source time function and improves the reliability of the near- and far-field spectra which are still the basic tools in detection work.
