Study of the relationship between visual and informational evaluations of an image
Abstract
A study is made of a set of negatives of an aerial landscape in which the structurometric characteristics vary over a broad range. A comparison is made of a visual evaluation of the quantity of information contained in the images with a value computed using the structurometric characteristics. It is found that satisfactory correlation is obtained if the width of the evaluation spectrum does not exceed the width of the granularity spectrum. Equations are derived which make it possible to find a linear correlation between the visual evaluation and the informational evaluation based on structurometric characteristics.
