Swarming Behavior: Evidence for Communication in Social Wasps
Abstract
Behavior of wasps at sites around swarms and along emigration routes suggests the use of odor marks. Wasps perform breaking runs through swarms, resulting in dispersal of clustered wasps. Orientation in flight of swarm mates to specific trail sites facilitates swarm emigration to the new nest.
