Calibration standards for nuclear gages: Density and moisture standards
Abstract
A search for suitable materials to serve as calibration standards for nuclear moisture density gages was undertaken. A series of six blocks was fabricated for these standards. Each standard consisted of stone from a separate source. Three were quarried and cut to suitable size from stone, and three were cast of Portland cement and selected natural aggregate from separate sources. These were chosen as the calibration standards for all nuclear density gages. The use of standardized blocks improved accuracy, uniformity, and flexibility. Monetary savings are attributed to this procedure.
