Control of zeroes by phase variation for phase controlled antenna arrays
Abstract
Sidelobes in discrete directions can be suppressed by means of iterative superposition of sinusoidal correction phases on the linear phase excitation functions at linear antenna arrays. The resulting array factor variations in the direction of interference and in the mainlobe direction, as well as the beam pointing error, were investigated by calculation. The situation with two or more directions of interference is discussed, supported by pattern examples. The influences of phase quantization on the relevant pattern values are also considered because of their importance for practical realization. It is shown that even at coarse quantization of two or three bits, useful sidelobe suppressions are possible for nearly all beam pointing angles.
