Array simulators
Abstract
Mismatch for certain scan angles of an infinitely large array antenna with uniform energy distribution can be determined by means of a small waveguide structure, the simulator. The operation of the simulator is explained. A complete derivation is given of the equation for the discrete scan angles of various types of simulators. Some simulators were built and tested. Good agreement was found between experiment and theory. Further experience has to be obtained with the more complex simulators. A waveguide simulator was built for a scan angle where complete compensation for mutual coupling has to be applied. The size and position was determined of the matching of the compensation for mutual coupling of an experimental planar phased array antenna, using the simulator.
