Electrochemical study of some nematic liquid crystals to improve the lifetime of display devices
Abstract
The oxide reduction reactions characteristic of certain families of liquid crystals such as tolanes, phenyl and biphenyl benzoates were studied to find out the time evolution of a liquid crystal subjected to an electric field. An original technology for display cells enabled separation of the spacing function (SiO wall) from the closure function (indium). The thickness of the cells is then perfectly controlled leading to the possibility of all multiplexing.
