Free convection in gas and liquid interlayers between walls
Abstract
It is shown numerically that the greatest thermal stratification originates in horizontal cylinders upon supplying heat to the cylinder's side surface. Thermal stratification in rocket tanks and in reservoirs also turns out to be greatest when the heat flux is supplied at the side. The growth rate of the mass of stratified fluid layer is determined by the heated fluid flowing from the boundary layer into cylinder sections.
