The COS-B experiment programme
Abstract
The COS-B satellite's mission is discussed. This satellite carries a single large experiment capable of detecting gamma rays with energies in excess of 30 MeV in order to study in detail the sources of extraterrestrial gamma radiation. The gamma ray telescope has been produced by a collaboration of six research laboratories. Steps in the development program are reviewed. The software for post-launch analysis has been produced and tested using data from the beam calibrations and balloon flight. The setup for data reduction is described.
