Wave propagation in inhomogeneous nonuniform structures
Abstract
Four different problems of electromagnetic wave propagation in inhomogeneous nonuniform structures are investigated. The scattered fields for a line source located above nonuniform stratified earth are computed on the basis of a full wave analysis which accounts for both uniform plane wave and surface wave excitations. The relationships between the full wave and the geometrical optical solutions are discussed. The full wave solutions are shown to satisfy the reciprocity relationships in electromagnetic theory. The differences between the radiation patterns generated by an input surface wave and an input plane wave at grazing incidence are brought out. The dependence of the radiation patterns on the various electrical and geometrical parameters of the earth is discussed in detail.
