The installation of a radio telescope for the millimeter wave region was completed in Finland in 1974. The telescope is operated by the Radio Laboratory of the Helsinki University of Technology. The telescope is of the Cassegrain type, and has a main reflector diameter of 13.7 meters. It is enclosed in a radome consisting of a metal space frame covered with panels made of glass fiber reinforced polyester resin. The rms accuracy of the main reflector is better than 0.4mm, making the instrument useful up to between 60 GHz and 90 GHz.
