Review of hydrofoil craft development

A literature survey on hydrofoil craft is presented. Some concepts frequently used in relation to design issues are explained and a short history of hydrofoil craft in and outside the U.S., with emphasis on particular design features, is given. Various aspects of the design of major craft subsystems, such as struts and foils, hull, propulsion system, ship control system, and auxiliary machinery, are discussed. The effects of design on several operational aspects, comprising lift, drag, stability, seakeeping behavior, and habitability are included.
