Displacement thickness in high-order boundary layers
Abstract
Lighthill's four definitions of displacement thickness were extended to higher-order boundary layers for incompressible two-dimensional and axisymmetric flow. Three of the definitions are equivalent, but they only yield the same result as the fourth in incompressible flow past impermeable bodies. The first two terms of the asymptotic expansion of the displacement thickness for large Reynolds number were determined.
