Excitation of hypersonic waves by a waveguide with resonant gaps
Abstract
Frequency characteristics and the loss factor are evaluated for a waveguide containing a number of resonant gaps and used for exciting hypersonic waves in piezoelectric crystals. The microwave output power of the waveguide is calculated, and the loss factor is determined for the conversion of electromagnetic power into acoustic power and vice versa. Calculated and experimentally determined dependences of the loss factor on the number of gaps in a waveguide with a constant pass band are plotted, and their correspondence demonstrates the practical applicability of the present computational method. It is shown that the loss factor can be decreased or the pass band can be widened by increasing the number of resonant gaps.
