Detection and evaluation of the source position for a signal modulating a random Poisson field
Abstract
A method is proposed for the detection and evaluation of the position of a source whose signal modulates the random Poisson field of a photoelectron flux emitted when a photomultiplier-type receiver is exposed to light radiation. An expression containing stochastic integrals is derived for the probability density function of the Poisson field. Source position is evaluated in terms of a maximum likelihood function and an a posteriori mean value. The procedure of evaluating the position of the signal source is demonstrated by an example.
