Application of the Fabry-Perot interferometer to high resolution and high sensitivity electronic spectroscopy
Abstract
The Fabry-Perot interferometer was used for high resolution atomic emission, high resolution solid state molecular absorption, and high sensitivity molecular absorption. Some modifications in design and alignment permitted the attainment of near theoretical resolution (a finesse of 35). It shown that high resolution molecular absorption work can be done as well as the more conventional atomic emission work. The Fabry-Perot was converted into a wavelength modulator, and higher sensitivity than with conventional techniques was achieved.
