Design and implementation of a speech synthesizer by means of a digital filter
Abstract
The speech synthesizer described simulates the vocal tract. The concept of the vocal tract considered combines the characteristics of all organs which participate in the filtering of the glottis signal. The vocal tract regarded is a nonlinear system which is composed of time and position-dependent elements. A linear model consisting of concentrated and, in an interval, time-independent components is used to simulate this system. The significant specifications of the speech synthesizer are discussed, taking into account investigations reported by Flanagan (1972) and basic studies conducted by Endres (1957, 1967).
