Resistive and Magnetoresistive Behavior of a Variety of Metallic Magnetic Systems.
Abstract
The first evidence for a divergent drho/dH at the Curie point (as H approaches 0) was found for CeAg. The resistive and magnetoresistive behavior of CeAl was studied and shown to provide a way of determining the phase diagram of a metallic metamagnet. The rho (H,T) behavior of several systems which have strong crystal-line field effects was studied. Experimentally the most striking observation is that of a resistivity minimum in a nonordering, non-Kondo system. A null result was obtained in an attempt to verify that Dy undergoes a first order transition of the nearly second order type. Mean field calculations, as well as experimental results show that a wide range of unusual temperature dependent scattering may occur both above and below magnetic transitions in such systems.
