Short He-Ne laser operating at a wavelength of 3.39 microns in a transverse magnetic field
Abstract
The feasibility of using magnetic fields to tune the frequency of a short He-Ne laser is examined. The effect of a transverse magnetic field over a range of field strengths from zero to 3000 O on the output intensity of a single-mode infrared laser was studied. The experiment was conducted under conditions of continuous adjustment of the resonator length to the central frequency one of the Zeeman components which was shifted by the applied magnetic field. The effects of changes in discharge tube diameter, resonator Q and the mode of stimulating a discharge on laser behavior in a transverse magnetic field are considered.
