Integrated interrogation-antenna system for panoramic radar installations
Abstract
Antenna systems are considered for a secondary radar system which is used in addition to primary radar in air space surveillance applications. Certain difficulties must be overcome in the design for mobile installations with small reflectors which are used for both frequency bands. An elegant solution of the problem is discussed for the case in which the radar device operates in a frequency range which is similar to that employed by the transponder. Attention is given to aspects of side lobe suppression, an excitation source design for very dissimilar frequencies, approaches for enhancing the direction-finding accuracy, and methods for improving the resolution of targets.
