Feed systems for cylindrical phased arrays
Abstract
A feed system considered by Boyus (1970) in connection with a step-scanned circular-array antenna is discussed along with feed systems employing switching matrices, a Butler-matrix feed system related to studies reported by Ziehm (1964) and Sheleg (1968), and a quasi-optical feed involving HF lenses. The significant characteristics of the described feed methods are compared. It is found that for a selection of the most suitable system in a particular case the characteristics of the intended application and the quality of the desired radiation characteristics will have to be taken into consideration.
