Theoretical models of electrostatic confinement experiments
Abstract
Experiments related to electrostatic plasma confinement studies are considered. The potential profiles associated with these experiments include a shallow potential well, a deep well, and spatially oscillating potentials. Models are developed that will produce these potential profiles. The basic procedure used in the case of all theoretical models involves a solution of Poisson's equations subject to certain boundary conditions. Attention is given to further work which is needed to improve theories which are not entirely satisfactory.
