Solid-state radar using 16 solid-state transmit-receive modules
Abstract
In order to demonstrate a solid-state distributed transmitter, a laboratory radar system was built, utilizing an array of sixteen solid-state transmit-receive modules, each containing a frequency-locked bulk-effect oscillator. A coherent phase-scanned beam was formed, and targets were detected at ranges up to 12 km. A device development program, proceeding in parallel with the radar system program, yielded improved performance capability of bulk-effect devices, demonstrating over 200-W peak power at S-band with 16% efficiency.
