Zero-Bias Schottky diodes as microwave detectors
Abstract
Recent gains in Schottky-barrier diode development have resulted in a new device offering a high level of performance without the need for externally applied dc bias - hence, the name Zero-Bias Schottky or ZBS. This new device exhibits excellent TSS, 1/f noise, and mechanical stability characteristics and is suitable for a wide range of detector applications in radar, receiver, instrumentation, and high reliability systems. Detector output interface circuitry can be simplified because externally supplied bias is not required. Although not covered in this article, the ZBS diode is also suitable for mixer applications in which the available local-oscillator signal level is less than 0 dBm.
