Reflection of an acoustic wave from the interior surface of a hollow cone
Abstract
The paper analyzes the problem of the reflection of an acoustic wave that is originally moving towards the vertex of a hollow cone and is reflected at the walls. The problem is formulated in a self-similar manner, with pressure and all velocity components required to satisfy the wave equation. It is shown that the equation of motion of the gas behind the reflected motion in self-similar coordinates is of hyperbolic type. Solution of this equation shows that the pressure increases along the reflected wave.
