Plasma stratification in the region of reflection of powerful radio waves in the ionosphere
Abstract
Theoretical study of the self-interaction of a powerful radio wave in the upper ionosphere due to electron heating. It is shown that in the region of radio wave reflection there develops an instability of the self-focusing type, leading to large-scale stratification of the ionosphere plasma. Instability increments are determined and their dependence on power is studied. It is demonstrated that an ordinary radiowave causes more intense disturbances in the plasma than an extraordinary wave.
