Electromagnetic waves: Propagation and radiation
Abstract
The Maxwell equations of the electromagnetic field are considered along with questions of energy flux and energy transformation, the Poynting vector, and concepts regarding a systematic subdivision of the theory of electricity. In a discussion of electromagnetic waves attention is given to the wave differential equation, plane waves, the Hertz dipole as a prototype of a radiation source, the magnetic dipole, an electric and a magnetic dipole as receiving antenna, antennas of an arbitrary length and with an arbitrary current distribution, groups of antennas, antennas over a conducting plane, the reciprocity theorem for antennas, and surface waves. A brief survey of the concepts of vector analysis is also provided.
