The determination of mean electron density profiles from AEROS-A data
Abstract
An empirically-based mathematical electron density vs altitude profile is derived which shows the strong longitudinal dependence of variations in electron density and temperature. The slab thickness coefficient is varied in the present treatment. Values obtained from this profile are compared with measured single values from AEROS-A. At high altitudes, the measuring point determines the slab thickness of the profile. By integration, the electron content in this upper region is obtained. These results are in turn compared to values predicted from Explorer 22 data.
