Density-dependent frequency shift of the hydrogen S2(1) quadrupole line
Abstract
The frequency of the S2(1) transition of molecular hydrogen has been measured at 293 K over the density range of 1-4.3 amagat. The frequency shift in this density range was found to be - (0.0045 ± 0.0005) cm -1/amagat. This shift is approximately double in magnitude the shift which has been measured for the S1(1) transition.
