Degradation of PSK signal due to intermodulation noise
Abstract
The paper deals with the intermodulation noise generated by the nonlinearity of input and output characteristics and the AM/PM conversion effect of traveling-wave tubes when a four-phase PM signal and two other carriers are amplified together by a traveling-wave tube. The effect of this intermodulation noise on the bit error rate of the demodulated PM signals is examined. The paper further elucidates as an example of numerical calculations the relationship between the output backoff and the bit error rate of the traveling wave tubes currently used at the Ibaraki satellite communication center.
