Low-noise Gunn diodes produced by thermocompression bonding
Abstract
The effects of thermocompression bonding on the noise of a Gunn diode are studied experimentally. It has been found that lattice dislocations induced by thermocompression bonding produce carrier traps which increase the 1/f bias current noise, hence the FM and AM noises. By a proper method the FM and AM noise powers can be reduced by 8 to 10 dB and 4 to 6 dB respectively, in the noise-to-carrier ratio.
