Heat transfer in spherical gas interfaces in the case of free convection
Abstract
Extensive experimental data obtained by Boiarintsev (1941) on free-convective heat transfer across gas interfaces (air, CO2, H2) bounded by concentric spheres are analyzed and generalized to satisfy the basic statements of similarity theory. The analysis of the similarity conditions for motion and heat-transfer processes in the presence of free convection leads to a set of generalized variables for describing the heat transfer at the concentric surfaces. The data are generalized in the form of a simple equation in dimensionless numbers that is well-suited for engineering purposes.
