Calculation of the initial thickness of the microlayer in nucleate boiling
Abstract
A simplified model is proposed for studying the formation of a thin liquid layer (microlayer) at the base of a vapor bubble during nucleate boiling. A relationship is established among the initial thickness of the microlayer and local hydrodynamic parameters. The proposed model is found to be useful for approximate quantitative analyses in cases when heat transfer through the microlayer makes a significant contribution to the boiling process at smooth surfaces.
